Blind-Led Tours at grunt gallery,

Experience Art Through a New Perspective.

This graphic promotes grunt gallery’s blind-led tour series for exhibition, A volar entre rocas, facilitated by Gagan Saran. There is a black colour-block banner at top, above an image of Gagan and attendees engaging in a tour of A volar entre rocas within grunt gallery’s exhibition space. Bold white text states “Free blind-led tours, Fridays at 4pm.” at top with white text outlined in black reading "30 minutes plus Q and A" in the area of an upper section of a red-ochre gallery wall. Below text, Gagan, a young, blind Indo-Canadian artist and writer, is speaking while leading a tour and wears a beige long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans with black boots and rainbow laces. Gagan has short hair and holds a phone with attached white earbuds and stands facing the camera while slightly oriented left, and holds the harness of her Black Labrador guide dog in her other hand. Two people at right also face left, one person wears all black. Their back is mostly visible and their arms are crossed while another person at bottom right, crouches while wearing a red cap and bright green t-shirt. Both stare intently at Gagan as she talks. The gallery space is comprised of a polished cement floor and two large red-ochre gallery walls with two washi prints visible, a small excerpt of sky appears at top left, above Gagan, and a large body-sized print depicting dark lava rock, white mortar, and clothing lines appears immediately behind and to the right of Gagan and even further to the right is an open doorway with white walls and an exit sign visible in the distance.

Grunt Gallery is excited to announce the continuation of our series of free, drop-in, blind-led tours, facilitated by Gagan Saran (they/she) , a blind Indo-Canadian emerging artist and writer. These unique tours allow visitors to experience contemporary art through visual and non-visual perspectives, challenging traditional ableist ways of engaging with gallery spaces.

The 30-minute tours are held on Fridays at 4 pm whenever an exhibition is on view in our gallery. Each tour is followed by a question-and-answer session, creating space for dialogue about diverse ways of experiencing and interpreting art. Please visit our events page for the latest information regarding blind-led tour dates.

As a summer of 2025 volunteer student at grunt gallery, Gagan has been integral to the preparation and development of a new program supporting the training of blind and low-vision tour guides as a part of grunt gallery’s ongoing commitment to accessibility in the arts. This training initiative builds on our successful three-year engagement with the non-visual community through our Accessible Engagement Projects’ Tactile Co-Learning Program. We are thrilled to announce that this initial prototype engagement has successfully received funding to support a paid training and public program for Blind and low-vision artists and creatives living in the greater Vancouver area until Spring 2026. This training program will provide an encouraging, collaborative environment for a cohort of Blind and low-vision artists to become guides for gallery spaces, with opportunities to work with other local museums and galleries outside of grunt. If you or your organization would like to be involved in supporting the future of this program in a fundraising or other capacity, please reach out to access@grunt.ca, we’d love to hear your ideas!

These guided tours of our exhibitions welcome visitors of all visual abilities—sighted, low-vision, and blind individuals are all invited to participate.
